Fine-needle aspiration biopsy of the breast is an examination involving the collection of a biological material from 1 lesion using an ultra-thin puncture needle.
This type of biopsy is used for collecting the biological material, which subsequently undergoes cytological assessment (this service requires additional payment according to the price list applicable at the Damian Medical Centre).
The examination is performed by a team of physicians including a pathomorphologist/surgeon and a radiologist. Using ultrasound, the radiologist identifies the area from which the material should be collected, while the pathomorphologist/surgeon inserts a thin needle into this area to collect a tissue for examination. The examination may help to diagnose or exclude malignant lesions in the breasts.
The biopsy requires no local anaesthesia as the sample is collected using ultra-fine needles. As a result, the level of pain experienced is considerably lower than in the case of standard blood collection procedure.
Please note- you must have a qualifying consultation with Doctors Konrad Zaborowski before purchasing a service from him. You can schedule a consultation here.
No special preparation is needed for the biopsy.
To perform the procedure, the following are required:
- A referral from a doctor (in paper form)
- An ultrasound (USG) result of the examined organ with images — not older than 3 months
- A printed mammography result (if performed)
If, upon examination, the physician finds more than 1 lesion which s/he thinks necessary to be tested, and the patient decides to have another lesion biopsied, the patient is obliged to pay for the biopsies and histopathological examinations of the other lesion(s) at the centre.
