What does an endocrinologist do?

The job of an endocrinologist is to diagnose and treat diseases of the endocrine glands and systemic conditions associated with disorders of the endocrine system.

Diseases that an endocrinologist deals with are:

diseases of the thyroid gland - nodules, hyperthyroidism (such as Graves-Basedow disease), hypothyroidism (such as Hashimoto's disease), inflammation, thyroid goiter;
Adrenal gland diseases - tumors, hyperactivity, hypoactivity, hormonal hypertension, Cushing's syndrome, Addison's disease;
pituitary gland diseases - tumors, hyperthyroidism, acromegaly, uraemia,
hypothyroidism, hyperprolactinemia, Cushing's disease;
diseases of the pancreas - endocrine tumors, diabetes mellitus;
diseases of the gonads - disorders of sexual maturation, menstrual disorders;
neuroendocrine tumors;
female infertility, male infertility;
androgenic syndromes;
gynecomastia.

It is worth seeing an endocrinologist if you have symptoms such as excessive lethargy and lack of energy, acne, menstrual disorders, alopecia, swelling of the hands and feet, weight gain or loss unrelated to lifestyle changes, excessive body hair, hyperhidrosis, excessive hair loss - if you suspect that endocrine disorders may be responsible for your complaints.

Scope of consultation

During the consultation, the endocrinologist:

performs a history and physical examination;
makes a diagnosis and informs about further treatment,
issues referrals for examinations, consultations, hospitalizations;
issues sick leave.

What does a visit to an endocrinologist look like?

During the visit, the doctor conducts a medical history with the patient and a physical examination (such as palpation of the thyroid gland), and interprets the results of the tests performed. On this basis, he may order additional diagnostics, make a diagnosis and give recommendations related to the therapy process. If indicated, the doctor may issue a medical release, a prescription, as well as a referral for tests or additional specialist consultation.

Visit details:

The consultation lasts 15 minutes.
You must arrive no later than 15 minutes before the appointment.
Implementation of the service is possible only at the medical facility indicated during the purchase.

How to prepare for an appointment with an endocrinologist?

Before coming in for a consultation, prepare:

results of current laboratory and imaging tests, if they have been performed (e.g., hormone tests, thyroid ultrasound);
information about past surgeries and hospital stays, and medications taken (including dosage).

During your visit, tell your doctor about any worrisome symptoms. Be sure to indicate how long they have been occurring, with what frequency they appear, and whether there has been a recent increase.

Telemedicine consultation

A telemedicine consultation can be used by any patient, regardless of location and previous medical history.

During the telephone consultation, the doctor will complete any services that are remotely possible. However, during the course of the medical interview, it may turn out that an in-patient visit is necessary, without which a correct diagnosis and treatment selection cannot be made.

The specialist will try to connect with the patient three times.

The doctor can only see the results of tests and consultations performed at the Damian Medical Center.
