Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy of Lymph Nodes Under Ultrasound Guidance with Cytological Evaluation - Urgent Mode
Fine needle aspiration under ultrasound guidance (FNAB) is a procedure that involves collecting cytological material from 1 lesion. The sample with the material is then subjected to cytological examination.
The FNAB biopsy is a targeted examination, meaning the doctor performs it under ultrasound guidance, allowing them to accurately determine the location from which to collect the biological material. The procedure does not require local anesthesia because very thin needles are used (these are needles with a smaller diameter than those used for blood collection).
The examination can help in diagnosing or excluding malignant changes, diagnosing certain types of inflammation, and making decisions about further action if the disease is confirmed (pharmacological treatment or the need for surgery).
The examination does not require special preparation.
The following is required to perform the biopsy:
- Referral from a doctor (in paper form)
- Ultrasound result of the lymph nodes with images. The examination cannot be older than 6 months (images and result in paper form).
Waiting time: up to 7 calendare days
If the doctor finds more than 1 lesion during the examination, which in their opinion should be examined, and the patient decides to undergo biopsy of another lesion, the patient is required to pay for the biopsy and cytological examination of the additional lesions at the facility.
