HCV Badanie przeciwciał
The HCV test is a blood serological test that detects the presence of anti-HCV antibodies, which indicate contact with the hepatitis C virus (HCV). The presence of antibodies does not always mean an active infection, but it requires further diagnostic evaluation.

HCV is a virus that causes hepatitis C, a form of viral liver inflammation. The HCV virus can damage the liver tissue. Infection with HCV is usually asymptomatic, which means it may go undetected for many years. The virus is present in the blood and tissues of an infected person and can be transmitted through contact with blood or any break in the skin or tissue.
Common situations in which HCV transmission may occur include:
- medical or non-medical procedures involving skin or tissue penetration without proper safety measures to prevent infection,
- injecting drugs without following hygiene and safety rules,
- accidental blood contact, e.g., during a fight, an accident, or contact sports (such as martial arts),
- sharing personal hygiene items (e.g., razors),
- cosmetic procedures performed with non-sterile tools (e.g., ear piercing, body piercing, tattooing).
The risk of contracting HCV through sexual contact is relatively low but increases in the presence of injuries, inflammation of the skin or mucous membranes of the genitals, anus, or mouth. The virus is not transmitted through breast milk during breastfeeding, but it can be passed on during childbirth.
HCV Testing – Who Should Get Tested?
Anti-HCV testing is recommended for individuals:
- with elevated liver enzymes (ALT, AST),
- who use or have used intravenous drugs,
- undergoing dialysis,
- born before 1991 and treated for hemophilia,
- with HIV,
- who are children of mothers with HCV,
- working in healthcare (doctors, nurses, paramedics).
Can HCV be cured?
Yes, HCV is fully curable in most patients. Modern antiviral therapies can completely eliminate the virus from the body within 8 to 12 weeks of treatment.
How to Prepare for an HCV Test?
The HCV test involves collecting a sample of the patient’s venous blood. No special preparation is required – the test can be performed at any time of day, and fasting is not necessary.
HCV Test Results
The result of the anti-HCV antibody test indicates whether the body has been exposed to the hepatitis C virus.
A positive result means that the patient has been exposed to HCV. However, this result alone does not determine whether the infection is current or occurred in the past and has already been cleared by the immune system.
If the result is positive, further diagnostic testing is necessary to assess whether the infection is still active and to what extent the disease has progressed.
The test result is available within 15 business days. It can be collected in person at the reception of the selected facility or accessed online. To view the result online, a password must first be obtained from the reception desk of the same facility.
- wynik dodatni – kontakt z wirusem HCV (wymaga dalszej diagnostyki).

Na interpretację wyniku mogą wpływać m.in.:
