Retinal laser surgery (1 eye)
Retinal laser surgery coagulates the retina with green light, which is specially adapted to this part of the eye to treat a specific retinal disease and to protect abnormalities in that part of the eye.
Retinal laser surgery is performed to treat many ophthalmic diseases, including:
- retinal dissection,
- degeneration of the retinal circumference (protection against retinal detachment),
- holes and tears in the retina that may detach,
- central retinal vein thrombosis,
- diabetic retinopathy,
- retinal microaneurysms,
- macular changes, such as central serous chorioretinopathy,
- other retinal and choroidal diseases.
The procedure requires pupil dilation and lasts from 15 to 40 minutes, depending on the number of lesions. Laser surgery is performed under local anaesthesia (using drops).

After treatment:
- do not drive for 3 - 5 hours after the administration of the eye drops dilating the pupils,
- do not exercise intensively or lift heavy objects for about 2 - 3 weeks.
The doctor has the option of issuing a sick note, because returning to work after the procedure is impossible for 4-5 hours.
You should reserve 2 hours of time for your stay in the facility (this includes the initial consultation, preparation of the patient for the procedure and the procedure itself).
If you’re having surgery on both eyes, you must book and purchase two visits. However, keep in mind that double laser surgery, in the case of large lesions in the retina, can be very tiring for the patient.
The procedure can be performed in children over 10 years of age, if they cooperate well with the doctor, and also in pregnant women before childbirth, as it is completely safe.
After the procedure, depending on the disease and condition of the retina, the patient will receive comprehensive information on further treatment or follow-up.
A referral from a doctor is not required but is recommended.
