Osmolarity – serum

The osmolarity of all body fluids in the body's state of physiological state is the same. An increase in osmolarity can be caused by:

• dehydration,
• straight urine,
• hyperglycemia,
• hypernatremia,
• stroke,
• uremia,
• renal tubular necrosis,
• consumption of methanol or ethylene glycol,

The causes of the decrease in osmolarity may be:

• conductivity
• hyponatremia
• Paraneoplastic syndrome
• Schwartz-Bartter syndrome
