Transfontanella ultrasound is used to assess brain structures in a newborn and infant. Fontanelle is the connection between the bones of the skull that is not ossified in a child. Correctly, the fontanelle should overgrow at the right pace.
The indication for the test is:
- premature birth of a baby (before 37 weeks),
- low birth weight,
- Head damage,
- suspicion of hydrocephalus,
- disorders of the brain and nervous system.
Transfontanella ultrasound is a method of imaging using ultrasound waves. The technique uses the phenomenon of ultrasound beam reflection from organ structures.
- A non-invasive examination performed in children up to 1 year of age.
- Duration of the examination: approx. 15-20 minutes.
- The patient is provided with the results of the examination in the form of an impression with the ultrasound image. All documents are printed during the appointment, so the patient receives the original version of the results.
